Few words about me

I was born in Switzerland but grew-up in south of France close to the Alps mountains. I studied Business and then moved abroad to start working in big corporations in the Netherlands, the USA and back to my country of origin, Switzerland.

Most of my jobs were about analyzing what people want and how they behave around the world. In a way, I always had this curiosity of observing and understanding the world and people.

Although I had very decent jobs, the main events that I remember at the end of the year are my personal travels abroad with my wife. Therefore, I try to travel as much as possible to discover the world culture and heritage.

What kind of traveler I am

I particularly like to understand in depth the places that I visit. For me, traveling is not just seeing nice things, crossing names on a bucket list or spending 2 hours taking the perfect shot for Instagram.

It is rather to truly understand what these places mean and how time has shaped the local culture. This is why I call my style of travel “cultural”. I love to learn about the history of places, the beautiful architecture from the past and the traditions and food of local people.

Which destinations I like

I have a growing passion for off-the-beaten track places. I had the chance to travel from an early age but mainly visited Europe and North America until my mid 20s. In the last ten years, I wanted to better know other civilizations than the western one. For instance, some of my favorite trips ever were in the Middle East and Central Asia in countries such as Uzbekistan or Oman.

In Europe, I increasingly travel to places that still have a sense of authenticity and are not victims of over-tourism. For instance, I now gladly trade a week-end in Venice for a discovery of its neighbor Padova. Edinburgh is super nice, but after 3 visits I loved discovering Glasgow for hits glorious industrial past and rough edges.

That said, the blog also talks about famous places like Thailand. But then, I always try to go escape crowds, find authentic experiences, the best hotels and wander in the areas where few tourist go.

I would add discovering the nature and landscapes. I am the kind of person that can stay at the window of a plane for hours to look at the earth below. During week ends, I often go hiking in the Swiss Alps. I love outdoor and discovering natural wonders is a no-miss in my trips.

Travel style

Being Swiss and perfectionist, I also love to plan well my travels in order to find out the best experiences and get the most out of the time abroad. My colleagues and wife loves to have me on a trip because I would naturally take charge of organization and they know that I will bring them to nice places. Let’s hope my tips and addresses can help you in your travels.

Finally, my sweet spot is staying at nice stylish hotels. For me, hotels are not just places to sleep between two days of visits. They are an integral part of my travels and I can truly enjoy the design, views and comfort of a nice hotel. Of course, this blog is not specifically about luxury hotels but nice accommodation is an integral part of my travel style and taste. This is why I include testimonials from my hotel experiences in the posts.
